FAQ

What do I need to use Migrate Guru?

You’ll need:
* An account on the new web hosting service.
* A domain on the new host, with WordPress installed.
* The destination’s FTP/cPanel details(optional).

Why do you need my email?

Migrate Guru requires an email address to send you updates on the migration process, notify you of any errors that occur during the migration.

How long does Migrate Guru take to move a site?

Migrate Guru can move a 1 GB (files & database) site in <30 Mins*
(*Approximate & depends on a number of factors).

Are there any limitations on the number of migrations?

Yes. We’ve enforced a limit of 5 site migrations/user/month (developers can request to have this limit extended). This cap ensures that our servers aren’t overburdened. Each of the 5 sites can be moved unlimited times.

Does Migrate Guru backup my site?

No.

Do I need to have WordPress installed in the destination?

Yes.

Do I need to have Migrate Guru installed in the destination to transfer my site?

Yes.

Why do you need FTP/cPanel details?

Migrate Guru requires FTP/cPanel details primarily as a fallback. The plugin generally doesn’t need these details, relying instead on Migration-key based migration. However, in cases where this primary method encounters issues, the plugin uses FTP/cPanel details as an alternative to ensure a seamless migration.

How do I move a multi-site network?

When installed on a WordPress multi-site network, the plugin automatically becomes ‘network activated’. Once this is done you can go by the same steps as a single site.

Do you have a help guide/documentation?

Yes, we do. You can access it here: https://migrateguru.freshdesk.com/support/home

After having a lot of difficulty with my web hosts trying to find help on how to migrate a website and finding nothing but vague answers and a lot of timed wasted, not to mention the difficulty in getting in touch with them, I found this plugin and it saved the day. I’m yet to test that everything has migrated properly, however, what I’ve seen so far, has impressed me immensely. I give a huge shout out « YAY » to Migrate Guru for this fantastic plug in, as well as saving me money I don’t have that I would have inevitably spent on ‘other’ plug ins to solve my problem. Thank you Migrate Guru – you 100% have my vote of confidence.

I had been searching for a tool to make a clone of my website so I could do some testing with some new features and theme I want to add. My site is over 14 years old and was over 70 GB in size. Other plugins would just time out and fail and I wasted a lot of time till I found Migrate Guru. Before doing anything I emailed the support to make sure the plugin could do what I wanted. To my surprise the support got back to me really quick, told me it would work and would be available for any questions or concerns. I followed the instructions and set the destination to my new test site. The migration took a few hours but wasn’t bad at all. After it was done the site wasn’t loading, so I emailed support again and they got back to me and said it appeared to be an issue with my host. Emailed my host that directed me to the error coming from Cloudflare, spoke to their support and we resolved the issue quickly and everything worked. So impressed and would highly recommend this to anyone needing to copy or migrate their website. My host wanted to charge me to create the clone so this plugin saved me money there. The plugin and the support are amazing!!!

I’ve migrated sites manually for years. I use Migrate Guru now. It’s excellent. I recommend it. I also recommend checking your site after for anything missing. Any additional webroot files you have uploaded (favicons, robots.txt, humans.txt etc.). Any historical data such as Relevannsi search data. Perhaps check the advanced setup for options. Thank you Migrate Guru for an excellent free plugin. Good work! 🙂 Regards Mike

Wow, I can’t believe it, it’s the easiest and least problematic migration I’ve ever done. Normally with free plugins you have to go through the hassle of downloading a huge backup to your notebook, then uploading it to its destination location, and if you don’t have a good internet connection, the process can take forever. With Migrate Guru, you simply type in the source website the data for the target site, and within 10 minutes your Wordpress installation has flown directly to the new server. It’s as simple as that. Endless gratitude to the team that created this plugin and made it available to the community. 🙂
